Ultimately, the wider FF7 canon is definitely being brought in to fill out the world in Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but whether or not the full Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core storylines are actually canon seems to be up in the air. Weiss does appear as a VR simulation fight in the main game after finishing the Intermission DLC, Nero is shown to be utterly devastating, and while the team "wins" the fight, only Yuffie manages to escape, foreshadowing something potentially happening with Sonon and Deepground in the future.
